Monthly Space EDLS

EDLS
(EAT, DRINK, LISTEN, SEE)
And wear.
We visited EDLS.

There is a new cultural complex called EDLS Carnival Lounge in Jongno 3-ga, which is very familiar to us. EDLS is located inside Nakwon Shopping Center, ‘Korea’s first musical instrument shopping center,’ and in line with this symbolism, it is a space where live performances are held every day under the slogan ‘Music, Everyday.’ There are small bars that perform such live performances in Jongno, but such a large live lounge seems to be the first in Jongno. EDLS, a combination of the very first letter of the 4 words Eat, Drink, Listen, and See, is a space where you can enjoy a variety of experiences.
There are different performances here every day, and the first part is a band performance, and the second part is a jazz performance where you can enjoy different music.

The lineup of the band performance in the first part is announced on Instagram at the beginning of each month, and the jazz performance in the second part is announced through the Instagram story on the same day. It is recommended that you visit by looking at the date and time to suit your preferred musical taste.

On this day, we visited in time for the second part of the jazz performance. It had been a long time since we had a meeting with managers, so we were able to watch the performance and chat in a pleasant atmosphere. It was a secondary location, so we had sparkling wine and tacos and nachos that we could simply garnish.
In a notice at the meeting, we threw the words, “Please wear it well according to the place,” and we were very curious about what styling each of them would wear. As expected, they dressed in their own style at the same time but very different. Like this, each individual feels different from one space to another.
When we first wrote about ‘Space,’ what we were aiming for was “a little story about space and clothing.” The guidelines and instructions saying, “You should wear these clothes in this place...” were avoided, and it was not a “story topic” that was made to argue that someone was right and that someone was wrong. It’s a very personal story, like an essay about what different people can wear in one place.

Since it was a gathering of people in the same workplace, a series of work stories continued even after work. (It seems like a problem for office workers who can’t do anything about it...) It is divided into two branches, Gangnam branch and Myeongdong branch, so as we see it, the way they work in different stores is different. Regarding this method, we went further and had a deep conversation about what we need to do in our respective positions to develop.

On the other side of the inside of EDLS is an art house by the artist Kildren. This space is actually used as the artist’s workspace. It seems like he works outside the store’s business hours. In this actual work site, there was a vivid sense of reality that was different from the main stage where the performances are held. The brush, paint, and the palette that he was working on could be seen, and when we went a little deeper inside, the work that was done could be seen. It seems like a bit of a contradiction that there is an exhibition hall with works separated from the main stage filled with the sound of music, but when the other two contradictions overlap, a new atmosphere is created. It was novel because seeing the exhibition together was possible in a short break while watching the performance.
It was happy to know a gem-like space in Jongno, and it was a place that would be visited frequently in the future.
We would like to express our gratitude to the staff for allowing us to take photos.

It’s not boring to wear a suit,
but it’s wonderful to wear a suit,
and we introduce it with a space.
